Julie-Anne Sykley's Twilight Mind

by Cyrus Webb

For me reading books and watching movies is more than just entertainment. Through both mediums I have been able to be transported to a different place, meeting characters that are not only fun to watch but to learn from as well.

Have you ever seen or read something that causes you to think about your own life and things you can learn, even when the subject seems so different than yourself? I have and so had Australian psychologist Julie-Anne "JA" Sykley. She is the author of the books Harry Potter Power and the recently released The Twilight Mind.

Sykley says this about the subject for her newest book: "The Twilight Saga (by international bestselling author Stephenie Meyer) is not just a vampire tale. It is a powerful psychological thriller about deep desire, self-discovery defying misery and achieving happiness against all odds."

It is because of the messages that she has gleaned from the books and movies that she penned The Twilight Mind. "Not only will The Twilight Mind give you fascinating psychological insights into Meyer’s best-selling novels," she says. "It will entertain, educate, and empower you with the best ideas and strategies from psychology. How does psychology fit with vampires, shape-shifters and other Twilight mysteries? What powerful psychological facts do the Twilight books hide? Authentic happiness. True love. Super self-control. Mastering emotional pain. Spiritual growth. Discover the Twilight world’s best mental health secrets and more - and increase your psychological power."

During our conversation about what led her to write the book I could easily agree with the book's premise from the very beginning. Like Sykley I also wondered about the book's popularity and what led so many to flock to get them as soon as they released. She told me "When I looked at these stories I saw a lot of empowering information. It's not just a vampire tale. It shows people how to be authentically happy and find true love."

The prize-winning psychologist also saw another benefit to the Twilight series. "It's so exciting when anything can drive young people away from TV and computer games. They are reading and enjoying books, learning language skills and problem-solving ability. What a great thing!"

Sykley says that she hopes readers of the Twilight series and her book The Twilight Mind come away with these powerful tools: "Be self-confident and empowered. You can actually grow into yourself through the situations you go through.  The story in Twilight helps people to find true happiness. If you really want to be happy, you have to embrace your inner values."

Julie-Anne's books are available through Amazon.com.
