[TO YOU, FROM ME] Celebrating Women Changing the World

It's time to celebrate.

Part of what I love about my role as Editor-In-Chief of this magazine for the past 20 years is my ability to use this platform to celebrate others.

This issue is all about celebrating amazing women who are rising and thriving in different areas---and I'm glad to share them with all of you.

I was raised by two amazing, strong women: my grandmother Quattie Webb and my mother Zattie Webb Sims. I saw firsthand the challenges they faced, the difficulties they had to overcome---but I also saw the joy they had for doing their best. I definitely wouldn't be who I am without them.

For you there might be things you have had to overcome. Maybe there are hills you are currently climbing. I want this issue to remind you that regardless of all that, you can change the world. You can make a difference. You can show others what is possible.

As you read the features here think about ways you can emulate their courage, tenacity and grit. I also want you to think of ways you have already demonstrated your ability to keep moving, even in spite of challenges. This issue is a celebration for us all, because each of us have the power to do something amazing.

Feel free to let me know what you think of this special issue celebrating amazing women. Also let me know about those who have impacted your own life.

As always, thank you for your support of Conversations Magazine. Happy reading!

TO YOU, FROM ME: Celebrating the Gift of the Woman

"And Adam said: 'This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.'" Gen. 2:23 NKJV

Having been raised primarily by my mother and grandmother I learned early in life that women play a vital role in the world that we live in. Through those two women and others that I have had the privilege to know over the years, I have seen that we have to work together to achieve anything worthwhile. Sadly, this is a fact that is lost on some, causing a distorted view of the woman to emerge in entertainment and in the way they are talked about and considered.

Using the platform of Conversations Magazine I wanted to shine a light on women of all ages and backgrounds that are doing amazing things, thus 25 Women Changing the World was born. You'll find fascinating profiles of women I have had the pleasure of interviewing over the years as well as some who have impacted me from afar. My hope is that you will not just read their stories but look for amazing examples in your own life of women who are making a difference.

As the scripture above indicated, the woman was created as a gift to man and the world. That is the way she should always feel: appreciated, valued and loved. To do otherwise is to show a disrespect for who she is and why she was put on the earth.

Have a special lady you want to share with our readers? I would love to hear about her! Email me at cawebb4@juno.com.

Until next time, happy reading!

To You, From Me: Walk By Faith... How?

"We walk by faith, not by sight."

Those words found in the Bible at 2 Corinthians 5:7 have really been the basis for the way I have lived my life over the past 6 years. It says to me that though things are not where you want them to be now it doesn't mean it won't get there.

When you look at your life and the decisions you have made or delayed do you see your faith in action? It's a personal and reflective question, but one that we have to ask if we truly want to move forward in our lives and in our relationships with God and others.

As you look at your year have you allowed the fear of what might go wrong stop you from pursuing all that you believe and want for yourself? Have you acted on that passion that burns within you or sought out ways to go beyond what man says you can or cannot do?

In this issue you will find amazing examples of individuals who have learned what it means to truly walk by faith. Highlighted on the cover is Jackie Carpenter. The two of us were introduced to each other in 2010. She is the author of THE BRIDGE and GEORGIA JUSTICE as well as an individual who has seen what walking by faith can do. Her journey and that of her family is the basis of the new film STAND YOUR GROUND which debuts in theaters in January 2014.

Jackie's faith and the belief that God could do what man couldn't is what she literally based her life on. How did she do it? It wasn't that she didn't try to handle situations herself. The breakthrough came when she was able to see that God was in control and that meant turning it all over to Him. It became about surrender. She could go no further for her son. She had to truly entrust him into God's arms of protection. That was all it took. God did the rest.

Jackie never intended to write a book, but the events in her life and the lessons she learned were meant for others to benefit from. Listening to God and putting her faith in action she was able to publish not one but two books about her experiences and God's victory in her life---and now a movie chronicling the events is on the way. Details can be found at www.standyourgroundmovie.com.

Do you find yourself stalled or in a place where the answer doesn't seem to be available? Ask yourself this: 'Have I surrendered? Have I given all that I am and all that I have to the One that cannot fail?' If the answer to these questions is no then you realize what has to be done. If the answer is yes, then you can be at peace that God will do what He has always said He would, and that is whatever is in His will.

May we all get to a place where we can find the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7) and be able to show others what it means to allow our faith to guide us.

Happy Reading!

To You, From Me

When we first announced the formation of the Model Citizens issue of Conversations Magazine I wasn't sure what the response would be. After all, would readers see the need of such a publication that highlighted those who are not just models professionally but setting an example for the world in other ways? The answer has been a resounding YES!

Like its monthly counterpart Conversations Magazine, Model Citizens includes interviews with movers and shakers from around the world as well as examples of individuals doing amazing things with their lives. In this issue you will be able to see profiles of those just like you that are using their skills to do amazing things.

My hope is that you will be inspired by those you read about and see the connective tissue that unites you to them. I also hope you will find ways to not only enjoy a purpose-driven life yourself but share with others how they can benefit from one as well.

Have someone you would like to see profiled in an upcoming issue or in our online features? Feel free to contact me at cawebb4@juno.com with MODEL CITIZENS in the subject line.

Until next time, happy reading!
