Loving You for YOU

"What the world needs now is love, sweet love..."

Those words from a popular song written in the 1960s is just as true today.

One of the biggest lessons of my life so far has been the importance of love. For individuals of faith we are reminded of the power of love in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13. We are even told in the scriptures that God is Love. What seems to be the dilemma for so many, however, is to believe that they are worthy of such love.

The world tells us how much we need to change, to be more like what others might see as the ideal individual. What I believe is that we need to begin to love ourselves as we are.

In this issue of Conversations Model Citizens you will meet individuals of all walks of life that are doing amazing things around the world. They couldn't do it, though, if they hadn't first realized their own worth and value. This means they have to love themselves enough to give their best, only then can their efforts be rewarded.

So many times we seem to love everyone EXCEPT ourselves. By doing that we forget that unless we take care of ourselves personally, we won't have much to offer anyone.

Embrace who you are with all of your imperfections and quirks. Know that you were created to be an individual, and only by being that person can you be the best you possible. If you can get to that place then you are sure to be on the right track for seeing your dreams coming true.

Want to share how you learned to love yourself? Email me at cawebb4@juno.com.

Until next time, happy reading!

A CLASS REUNION EQUATES TO VALUABLE LIFE LESSONS

by Mary E. Gilder

Weeks ago while sorting through hundreds of aged photos, my eyes settled on a photo of two friends and me on graduation day.  Most importantly, I recall that prior to me exiting the school ground; I stopped to take a final look at my classmates. Many I had known since grade school. Within that moment, I understood that hundreds of my classmates would never be seen again by me.  Interrupting my moment of sadness was a reminder that many would meet again at our ten year class reunion.

What I thought would be an eternity, came ever too swiftly. At my ten-year class reunion, I was thrilled to reunite with class-mates.  However, my excitement soon turned to disappointment. From the moment I entered the ballroom, most of my class-mates appeared to be recreating their scripts from high school. The interaction I shared with many I encountered resembled an interview.

1. Where do you live?
2. What college did you attend?
3. What do you do?
4. Do you own or rent?
5. What do you do?
6. Have you done much traveling?
7. What do you do?
8. Have you seen Fred, Ted or Jed? Well, let me tell you what it is they do
9. Again, what do you do?
10. If I haven’t mentioned, this is what I do.

The more things appeared to have changed…in actuality, they had stayed the same for several class-mates. Many of those who were arrogant, insensitive, rude…etc in high school showed no growth. There was energy in the ballroom, an energy reminding all that there was an expectation as it pertained to status and success. And many spent hours identifying those who had not lived up to the expectation.  I remember departing feeling grateful for having had the experience of seeing many of my classmates but there was also a profound sense of disappointment.

Now forward many years later during the month of July 2012, during this month I attended my class reunion with memories from many years prior. However, when I entered the event, there was a different energy in the air. There was an undeniable feeling of power. A power not based on status but a power defined by years of wisdom attained.

As I explored my surroundings I was greeted with hugs, smiles and handshakes. No one appeared to be concerned with
- My profession
- What car I owned
- My zip code
- My credentials
However, what appeared to be a consensus amongst the group:
- An appreciation for being alive and gratitude for attending the reunion
- An understanding of our many blessings
- The love we hold for our children and grandchildren
- Remembering our classmates who had passed on

We talked about what was most important and most importantly, we held the same beliefs on what that was. We agreed that family, friends, peace of mind, cherishing every moment and walking in love was most important.

I know without doubt time heals but time also teaches so many amazing lessons. How I wish that the lessons shared at my most recent class reunion, were learned prior to our ten year reunion. How less complex our life journeys would be if the lessons gained in our forties, fifties and sixties were available to us in our twenties; just a thought!

I challenge those who are far into their journey, to reach back and share with those less traveled about the lessons.  Share with them the importance of family, friends, good health, integrity, gratitude. Explain to them the importance of walking in love. Most importantly, remind them of how they are only here for a moment and the importance of treasuring their visit.

As you continue to journey I wish you Love, Peace and Continuous Joy,
Mary E. Gilder (Meg)

Harold "Noonie G" Ward: A Gangster with a Heart of Gold

(Ward seen above with Hip Hop artists Kanye West and Common)

by Cyrus Webb

The numbers are truly staggering.

In 2012 in Chicago alone there were...
2400 shootings
505 total murders
319 shootings of children
108 murders of youth and children
19% increase in murder rate

It is because of this that the city of Chicago is not just seen as the Windy City but the murder capital of the United States. Though many are focusing on the negative, Harold ''Noonie G' Ward, is looking to be a part of the solution. Why? Because as a former high-ranking member of the Gangster Disciples gang he was part of the problem.

I had the opportunity to talk with him after reading his book GANGSTER WITH A HEART OF GOLD (with a foreword written by Kanye West and Common) and watching the documentary by the same name. It was obvious in our conversation how passionate he was about his city and trying to protect the younger generation.

"There are too many resources and powerful people here," he told me, referring to city. The lack of attention that was being paid to the serious problem of crime caused him to ask this question: "What's the value of a black life?"

Looking at other senseless crimes around the country, Ward sympathizes with what they are going through. "There is crime everywhere," he says, "but in just one weekend we lost 55 young lives. We should be focusing on helping everybody. We need to step our game up. These kids need things to do: after school programs, etc. The problem is when they start cutting budgets, these things are the first to go. We can't forget that an idle mind is the devil's workshop. Where there is poverty you will find crime and a lot of foolishness and violence."

In his book Ward says this: "Back in the day it took a village to raise a child. Not today. You got to check the parent and the child because they both kids. The parents don't want you to say or do anything to their children until it's too late... The Bible says "train up" a child in the way he should go and they will never depart. We as parents need to help put an end to violence. The solution starts at home. We need to stand up and make a move... Let's take our control back."

Ward sees the pattern and recognizes the source of a great deal of the disorder. "These are innocent kids," he told me. "The majority have fathers in the Penn and mothers on crack. They didn't choose that hand. They were dealt that hand. They got lives, too. They look around and think this is the way it's supposed to be. It shouldn't be that way."

Because of where he came from he knows firsthand what is possible.  "I know it was only the grace of God that has kept me," he said. "I really am surprised that I'm still here, but God has a plan for my life."

That plan includes using his life as an example for others and doing his part to raise others up along the way.

The book and DVD Gangster with a Heart of Gold are available through Amazon.com. You can keep in touch with Harold "Noonie G" Ward through his Facebook fan page and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/therealnoonieg.

Julie-Anne Sykley's Twilight Mind

by Cyrus Webb

For me reading books and watching movies is more than just entertainment. Through both mediums I have been able to be transported to a different place, meeting characters that are not only fun to watch but to learn from as well.

Have you ever seen or read something that causes you to think about your own life and things you can learn, even when the subject seems so different than yourself? I have and so had Australian psychologist Julie-Anne "JA" Sykley. She is the author of the books Harry Potter Power and the recently released The Twilight Mind.

Sykley says this about the subject for her newest book: "The Twilight Saga (by international bestselling author Stephenie Meyer) is not just a vampire tale. It is a powerful psychological thriller about deep desire, self-discovery defying misery and achieving happiness against all odds."

It is because of the messages that she has gleaned from the books and movies that she penned The Twilight Mind. "Not only will The Twilight Mind give you fascinating psychological insights into Meyer’s best-selling novels," she says. "It will entertain, educate, and empower you with the best ideas and strategies from psychology. How does psychology fit with vampires, shape-shifters and other Twilight mysteries? What powerful psychological facts do the Twilight books hide? Authentic happiness. True love. Super self-control. Mastering emotional pain. Spiritual growth. Discover the Twilight world’s best mental health secrets and more - and increase your psychological power."

During our conversation about what led her to write the book I could easily agree with the book's premise from the very beginning. Like Sykley I also wondered about the book's popularity and what led so many to flock to get them as soon as they released. She told me "When I looked at these stories I saw a lot of empowering information. It's not just a vampire tale. It shows people how to be authentically happy and find true love."

The prize-winning psychologist also saw another benefit to the Twilight series. "It's so exciting when anything can drive young people away from TV and computer games. They are reading and enjoying books, learning language skills and problem-solving ability. What a great thing!"

Sykley says that she hopes readers of the Twilight series and her book The Twilight Mind come away with these powerful tools: "Be self-confident and empowered. You can actually grow into yourself through the situations you go through.  The story in Twilight helps people to find true happiness. If you really want to be happy, you have to embrace your inner values."

Julie-Anne's books are available through Amazon.com.

Karen Keilt's Journey to Freedom

by Cyrus Webb

Some things just seem like something out of a movie. One example of this is the inspiring story of Karen Keilt. She went from seemingly having it all to experiencing one of the darkest chapters of her life.

Through the experience came the book THE PARROT'S PERCH, a fictionalized version of her ordeal that has even garnered praised from the President of the United States.

I was first told about Karen and her story through a mutual friend Andrea Chilcote, and after hearing some of what she had gone through I knew it was tailor-made for Conversations.

KAREN KEILT ON THE DECISION TO SHARE:
It came about in an interesting way. Basically what happened to me occurred about 30 years ago. I had moved on with my life, not wanting to tell anyone. One day in yoga one of my teacher's themes was about forgiveness. What she said was that forgiveness was about letting go of the hope that your past could ever be different. That resonated with me for several days. I realized that though I had gone on with my life I hadn't forgiven and gotten past the events of my life. I knew I had to tell the story."

KAREN KEILT ON THE PAST:
"When I was 22 years old I was falsely arrested and imprisoned in Brazil where I grew up. Within a matter of hours my entire life was turned completely upside down. I was raped, my husband and I were beaten and tortured on a device called the Parrot's Perch."

KAREN KEILT ON HER STORY RESONATING:
"I believe the reason the story resonated with people is because torture and crime and corruption are extremely common in Brazil. Human rights violations are happening every day."

KAREN KEILT'S HOPE:
"I think that this matter is so important that people take a look at it. It needed to be told. I sent a copy to Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and President Obama. [The President] thanked me for the courage to tell my story. My hope is that something really positive can come from it.

"These events happened to me but don't define me. I consider myself very blessed that what happened did happen to me and that somehow I had the strength to come through it. There's a purpose for everything. I didn't know that I could come back from what happened. Now I have the strength and ability to help people to become more aware. I'm the one who found the voice to talk about it."

Karen's message for us is this: "I really believe that all of us have much more strength than we expect. There were many times when I didn't think I could get through this. My mom used to tell me 'This, too, shall pass.' That's important for all of us to know. We can get through whatever it is. "

Deborah "Collage" Grison: Sharing How to EAT LIFE

by Cyrus Webb

For many individuals around the world the way they see themselves on the outside dictates whether or not they are the person they are supposed to be. Not so for Deborah "Collage" Grison. Over the past year she has made a conscious decision to change her life from the inside out---and it is a journey she has allowed the world to take along with her.

The movement is called EAT LIFE, and in our conversation she stressed that this was not about dieting. It was about changing the way she saw herself and the food she took into her body.  It began by chronicling her own journey through Facebook on a page. From there it caught on. "I said let me just keep going," Grison told me. "I would plate my meals and share them with the world.  It began with green stuff on a plate but evolved into pretty food and something that was awesome to the eye."

As the book that would come later alludes to the idea initially was to just do 30 days, but the response from those who were following the experience online wanted more. She then decided to keep going to 100 days, however, even that deadline came and went. "It became more of a habit," she says and just kept going. "I almost couldn't stop, because there were people who were looking, listening and watching. We have become a family. We are all invested in each other, and it is helping us all become better."

During our conversation about the EAT LIFE movement on Conversations LIVE Grison shared that this was not just about eating differently but living differently, and with good reason. In December 2011 she found herself in situation where she wasn't able to walk. She told me she was physically challenged in a way that she didn't know what was going on. As 2012 came in she came to this decision: "I was going to take this into my own hands and use food to help me heal."

Her intent was clear at the very beginning. "I didn't set out to lose weight. My goal was to heal and be able to walk and be healthy." She way she looked, however, was affected automatically. "By my changing everything I did lose weight." The weight-loss was a pleasant side-effect of of putting her health first.

As previously mentioned Facebook became the place where the experience was shared online, but it didn't end there. Grison says that Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest were also successful tools in showing how others could improve themselves and spread the message of EAT LIFE. "It's a movement not a moment," she says.

When reflecting on what led her down the path where she is now, reminded me of a simple truth. "You can never predict what will come your way and how you will face it," she said. "The reality is that we all have different challenges." The important thing is how we react to them and what they are able to teach us. Thinking of the physical condition she experienced, she remembered telling herself this: "Whatever this is, I am going to live."

The next step on the movement is the book I EAT PRETTY: 30 Days & Ways to Eat Life. "This book gives you about 50 options to prepare meals," Grison explains. "It's not a diet book. It's not a weight-loss book. It's a guide. What I can guarantee is that when you begin to make changes in your life your body will change. It will begin to heal itself."

As we wrapped up the discussion Grison shared this nugget: "Food is not the enemy. Food is a beautiful, awesome resource if we use it wisely. We have to make wise decisions. If we do the right things for our bodies it will respond miraculously."

You can join the movement today at www.eatlifeonline.com or through its social sites www.twitter.com/eatlifeonline and www.facebook.com/groups/eatlife.

Vickens Moscova: Using Social Networking to Affect the World

by Cyrus Webb

No matter where you are in the world there is no escaping the online influence of Vickens Moscova.

It's been my pleasure to watch him over the past couple of years quietly conquer not only modeling and acting but the world of business as well. You will find him in photos with your favorite celebrities or simply networking on the behalf of his clients. Either way he is using the world that is at his fingertips and showing us all what it takes to stay relevant in an ever-changing world.

When he came on Conversations LIVE for the second time my goal was to get him to open up about the drive behind what he does. Having the success is one thing, but to get there you have to tap into what you love and in the process bring out the best in others.

In this conversation Vickens discusses that and more.

VICKENS ON JUDGING HIS SUCCESS:
"I look at success by the results I am able to bring about in other people's lives. It's one thing to do something that affects you. It becomes more important when you can do it for someone else."

VICKENS ON THE DECISION TO SUCCEED:
"It came at a turning point in my life. I had a choice: either be successful or basically die. I wanted to live. I wanted to do it in a way that I could feel successful. Many people didn't know I was homeless for 6 months. I was working and doing what I could while I didn't have a place to live! What got me through it was remembering this: people had been through similar situations and worse. During that point in my life I had everything I needed inside of me. It was going to take significant work and doing something totally different, but I knew I could do it."

VICKENS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTENT:
"I realized at a certain point that people found my content interesting. Positive brings about positive. The more intelligent my post were it created a real circle that created more opportunities to do more. People need to understand that information online is valuable.

"Every person is a brand online. We can become brand ambassadors for ourselves and other companies. Because of the content I create and share I have been able to get myself sponsored and others sponsored."

VICKENS ON KEEPING THE EGO IN CHECK:
"I realize that I was born on this planet like everyone else, but I have to work at making my life different. For me that means connecting with the ego and understanding it. This is a big part of my understanding myself. We are all connected. We all have our unique experiences we can relate to. It's almost like a universal language."

Vickens Moscova advice for us all? "Seek out your purpose and live out your passion."

Kip Kreiling: Learning To Move Forward, Leaving THE IMPOSTER Behind

by Cyrus Webb

Don't think it is possible for certain people to change? Then let me introduce you to Kip Kreiling. If you had met him growing up you would have probably believed that as the case. In my interview with him on Conversations LIVE he told me that although he was not trying to earn the worst childhood award, his was quite painful. Picture it: he was arrested three times before he was 10, 11 times before he was 14. He was also a person who because of the world he found himself in got involved with drugs quite early as well. That is not the person he is today.

The Kip Kreiling that you meet today is a successful executive who has earned the respect of his peers and has even founded his own non-profit foundation called Transformation Help (see www.transformationhelp.org ). He is helping others to take their lives into their own hands and realize their own value.

Like others who have gone through a dramatic shift in their lives, Kip didn't share his background for quite some time. In fact it wasn't until his book THE IMPOSTER? was released that he began talking openly about his past. Doing so has not only been inspiring for others but liberating for him as well. In his book Kip writes this: "I believe that our mind is the mechanism that determines what we do and who we are. By changing our mind, we can change who we are. (p. 220)"

When asked what he hopes readers take away from the book and his story, Kip says this: "I want people to know that they can completely change." He went on to say that things might seem impossible until you do it. That is such a great lesson for all of us who might be looking at obstacles in our lives and wondering how we can ever move them. Kip shows us that if we are being authentic and don't give up we will find the way to make the impossible possible.

Visit www.kipkreiling.com for more information about Kip and the book.

Erin Morgart: Transforming Her Life From the Inside Out

by Cyrus Webb

With a new month comes the thoughts of maybe bringing forth a new you. This could mean ideas of changing the way you look, the way you see your life and your role in t o clearing out the clutter that is keeping you from being the best of yourself.

Whatever it may be, remember that there is a big difference in just talking about a solution for your problems and acting doing something.

Take for instance fitness trainer and model Erin Morgart. It is safe to say that she is the perfect representation of marrying your thoughts with your actions.

Morgart grew up not thinking a lot about her weight because she was small and fit. As life happened to her, however, things (and her body) began to change, and she realized that decisions had to be made.

She made what she refers to as a "conscious decision" to change her life, and today she is reaping the rewards. "For most people there will be a catalyst that if they don't do something right now they can go down the slippery slope or do what they know they should do to change," Morgart told me. "I was there."

After having two children and seeing the way her body was hanging was enough to trigger the inner competitor inside of her. "I said to myself that this weight just had to go," she says. "I was tired of being sick and tired and depressed. I had this moment in my mind where I said I'm sick of it." She says it was like "a switch that comes on that says 'that's it.'" From there she was on her way to the transformation that people see today.

Training was a large part of her experience, but it began inside. "The decision to change is 95% mental," she says. "If we want it we have to consciously make an effort. "I took it to an extreme level where I didn't want to go back to where I was. It was a healthy obsession that continues to pay off."

Among the changes was her diet and starting a food journal. As the results began to show themselves Morgart decided to use her experiences to help others. It was beneficial for her as well. "I know I can do better," she would tell herself. It was like competing against herself. "I do better when I'm with people. I feed off other people's energy. It was more or less a self challenge for me. So many people have a history of health issues," she says. "I would really like to be around for my children, and I know others would as well."

Now Erin Morgart is enjoying not only the fruit of her own hard work but helping others as well. "It feels fantastic to be making a difference," she says. "There is no greater joy than helping others reach their goals. I hold them accountable." She tells them that this is their time for them to become the person that you once were and can be. For her it affects more than just the way you look. "It does carry over into all other points of your life: spiritual, relationships..everything."

You can find Morgart all over the country as well as taking advantage of the opportunities available through reaching clients and others online. "It's a joy to be a positive inspiration," she told me. "I really try to keep it personal. I see it as a blessing to reach other people on such a grand scale."

Erin Morgart's story is proof of how you can begin making changes in your life today. It all begins with a decision. "I did it on my own but that's my personality," she says. "There is nothing wrong with working out with someone else or hiring a trainer. There comes a time when you will say I can't live like this anymore. For those people who are out there they know it is not going to happen overnight. You have to be patient. It's a matter of being consistent.  It's doable. Believe me, I'm not the only one capable of doing it. "

Stay in contact with Erin at www.erinjmorgart.com as well as on Twitter at www.twitter.com/erinjmorgart as well as Facebook at www.facebook.com/erinjmorgart.

John-Westley Dean: Living A Purpose-Driven Life

by Cyrus Webb

Many have gotten to know John-Westley Dean from his roles in movies like ATL, Madea Family Reunion and Stomp The Yard as well as tv shows like House of Payne and Single Ladies, but he is more than just another celebrity you see in a role. He is using the opportunities he has been given to fulfill  what he sees as a calling on his life.

Whether he is acting, modeling or sharing his love of fitness and health, Dean has found the key to having a purpose-driven life, and he is allowing it to lead him in everything he does.

"As I've gotten older I have learned to trust my own abilities," he told me in our interview. This trust has aided him in making the right decisions not just for the short-term but the future as well.

Growing up in the inner city, Dean says that school was a real balancing out. "My parents pushed me to be more into school and books, but I was still athletic." He says that because of his focus on his education he was "outside the cool kids", but because of his skills in sports was not considered a nerd. When the time came to make a decision what he wanted to pursue, it was his faith that became more of a guiding force.

"For a long time I was always walking that line," Dean explained. "I had people pulling me on both sides. What finally made up my mind was starting to see a trend of the guys who came before me. Some of them are doing the same things that they did years ago. That might be okay for them, but I didn't see those kind of limitations for myself. I always knew there was something in me that was destined to be better and more than what may have been expected."

What was next for him? Not modeling or acting but the Military. It was there that he learned a valuable lesson that would aide him when he would eventually enter the jungle that is the Entertainment Industry. "The Military teaches you how to hurry up and wait," Dean explained. That lesson also helped him to realize the truth about himself when it came to success and the importance of caring for the whole person. "In order to be successful in this business or any business you have to take care of the body," he says. "That means eating right but also having a healthy mental and spiritual life." Dean's belief in something larger than himself allowed him to understand the Law of Attraction. "Everything does come full circle eventually," he told me. "Your turn will come. You are going to get your time to shine. Just be prepared when that time comes."

At the age of 28 John-Westley Dean entered the world of modeling and acting and has not looked back. "My first audition I landed the lead role in a pilot that was being filmed,"he says. "It wasn't picked up, but it definitely encouraged me to perfecting the craft. Just this year he even landed a role in Hunger Games 2, and he continues to star in stage plays and on hit tv shows. "Confidence for me has come over time. Taking acting classes and being around those who share the same goals has been important, but putting God first has helped me a lot."  He then added something that I think everyone can learn from: "I had to step out on faith and know this is my calling. I know this is what I'm supposed to do. Modeling and acting are my God-given talents. For me to not utilize them would be a sin in itself."

In a world where others attempt to define you, John-Westley has made the life-changing decision to be the best of himself in everything that he does. "Everyone has a notion as to who you should be and how you should be," he says. "I'm learning to have people accept me for me." At the end of the day he also believes that no matter how people feel about him, they will have no choice but respect him.

Fortunately he is not in this alone. His wife and business partner has been an amazing asset when it comes to keeping his ego in check. "She definitely keeps me grounded," he told me. "She is also one of my biggest fans and supporters. I am lucky and blessed to have her in my life."

Aside from the work he does in front of the camera, Dean is still helping individuals become their best selves as a personal trainer to those who are looking to change who they are from the inside. His message to them begins with this: "Anything worth having in this life is not easy. Set realistic goals for yourself. People have a notion to set outrageous goals for themselves. No matter what your profession you should want to be the best you can be. Even if I wasn't doing what I'm doing (in the entertainment industry), I would still want to take care of myself."

Adding on to his growing brand, Dean is currently working on his line of athletic comfortable wear for men and preparing for upcoming projects.

Being true to his name and the Biblical nature of it, John-Westley feels as though he is the one who is paving the way for you to reach your ultimate goals when it comes to health, fitness and success. "This is my passion. It's what I love to do. I'm preparing you for something that is coming of a greater value for yourself."

His words of encouragement for you? "Whatever your dream is, think about it..write it down. Recognize what brings you joy. You'll find your passion in that thing. Find out your passion and what motivates and moves you and make that your career."

REVIEW BY CONVERSATIONS BOOK CLUB:

Let's face it: there is enough going on in the world to keep us feeling down and having a grim outlook on what is possible in our personal lives and the world in general. Every now and then we need that "pick me up" that reminds us of what is possible if we only remind ourselves of the role we play in having a better life. In her book A HAPPY YOU Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo looks at the things that can make us unhappy and realize what we can do to turn things around.

One of the things she talks about in the book is the benefit that comes from writing things down. You don't have to share it, but putting on paper what we are feeling and going through will also help us to identify how we want to bring about change in our lives. That leads to another important point: identify the thing you don't like and begin to make a plan to change them. Now this is not going to happen overnight, but beginning the process is the important thing.

The book takes you through what can be seen as the ABCs of building a sense of happiness in yourself, and what is interesting is that it also lets you see that alot of it has to do with our relationships not just with ourselves but others in our lives as well.

Thoughtful and informative, A HAPPY YOU is a pleasant reminder that we all deserve and can have better lives.

Dionne Warwick: Celebrating the Power of NOW

by Cyrus Webb

She is the Grammy-winning legend that has impacted the world through music for over half a century. Ms Dionne Warwick is a legend not just because of her voice but because of the life she has lived and continue to live. She is a perfect example of someone understanding the importance of the moment and living NOW. In fact, to celebrate her 50th anniversary in making memorable music she recently released a celebratory album called NOW that is not only pleasing her loyal fans but making new ones as well.

I have had the privilege of interviewing Ms. Warwick twice on Conversations LIVE, and each time she was nothing but gracious and appreciative. During the first conversation I was joined by Susan Violante from Venezuela , an author who told Ms. Warwick that her music helped her to learn English! What an amazing opportunity: to be able to impact someone's life in such a dramatic way.

As I spoke with Ms. Warwick for this interview she shared some with me what this 50 journey has been like for her. ""It's been a wonderful ride," she says. "I'm thankful to my supporters for 50 years. I basically thought that if I stayed true to who I am and sung the kind of songs that my audience expected of me then longevity was a given."

I asked her if she believed that what people responded to with her was the soul and the love that she puts into her music. "I think it's definitely that," she replied. "The music that I've been able to sing has grown. That is the beauty of music. It has the ability to live on and on."

Though she was confident in her gift and believed it could take her anywhere, even Ms. Warwick says she never believed she would be in the business this long. "I felt that my first 10 years would be it and I would go on to teaching," she told me. "But that 10 years turned into 10 more and on and on. Now here we are."

Because she is still here, she does understand the influence that music has in our lives. "Music generally has an amazing impact on people," she says. "I could never imagine a world without music. Artists are known as the messengers. I hope the messages that I have been sending have been effective and will continue to be."

Talking about the younger generations that are discovering her music, Ms. Warwick's says this: "I certainly hope they discover some really wonderful songs that were written before they were born. I want them to enjoy the messages I have been able to bring. " Thanks to the internet, that is exactly what is happening already, and this thrills her. "It's wonderful to hear all of the comments," she says. "I am humbled by so many young people listening to my music and enjoying it. I am glad they could jump on that train and take the ride with me."

Music is not the only way people of all generations are learning about Ms. Warwick. She is still active in her charitable work and her other businesses which include writing and even a fragrance. "As a youngster my grandfather told me that we are all on this earth to be of service to each other," she told me when I asked about the work she is doing to help others. "If my talent is the way I can do that then it's very easy to do." She then added: "I think that it's a part of what we are here to do. The messages that we send are vitally important."

Recording Artist Estee: Reminding Us to Whom We Belong

by Cyrus Webb

When I compile my list of favorite female recording artists of 2012 there is one name you can definitely expect one name to be at the top of that list: Estee.

From the first time I interviewed her some two years ago I knew that she had a gift that was not only helping and inspiring others but truly blessed in a special way. Whether it's the singles "I Wouldn't", "I'm Still His" or the new track "Excuses", it seems that her music always comes at a time when it is most needed.

Estee has known all of her life that she had a gift, something that was special. It was further reinforced by her mother. She told me that its really been the past five years that she's used it for nothing but Gospel music.

When reflecting on how her voice is impacting the lives of others, Estee told me "I think it's an honor. I give God glory for it." The compliment, though, is not an ego boost for the singer/songwriter.She then added that the evidence of the music reaching people where they are is "proof that it's not me. I ask for God to remove me and have His way in what He wants me to say."

Part of what is able to keep Estee focused on her role in the spreading the Good News of God is the reminder of her own imperfections and flaws. She sings about this in the song "I'm Still His", and she expounded on it during our most recent interview. "I know that everyone has had their trials and tribulations. For me it is truly a blessing that I'm still here. I have a message to give that's God's message. He is using me to show that just my being here is a testimony."

The real beauty of what Estee shares is that it's not too late for her to turn things around. When we know we have fallen short and not done things the way we should, we have the opportunity to set things right. "We know who we serve," she said to me. "At the end of the day we get down on our knees and ask for forgiveness. We're His children no matter what. Don't give up. Start brand new. God gives you strength to move on."
